As The Feast of Tabernacles is already upon us I've been thinking about a few things given the time of year.
Most of us as christians do not, or have not, given much thought to areas of Scripture like we should. Like the birth of Jesus, for example. Now, while much of the story we hear is true, there are elements of it that have come from either being misinformed or from false teaching.
The main element that has been falsified is the date of the Messiah's birth.
Jesus was NOT born on December 25th. In fact, just a brief study through the Scriptures reveal this plainly.
"And there were, in the same country, shepherds abiding in the fields, watching their flocks by night" - Luke 2:8
Simply put, shepherds would not be camping in the fields of Israel, near Jerusalem, at night watching their sheep. Why? Because it's cold. Very cold.
Israel is very similar in climate to Indiana and other areas of the mid-west. Winters there are very cold, even producing snow. This time of year would be well past the time when shepherds would be in the fields with their sheep.
This one little fact of climate and location quite easily shows us that Christ was not born in December. But we also know by looking at Luke and 2nd Chronicles 24 that there is further evidence that the Lord was not born in December, but actually in the fall of the year. Most pastors and biblical teachers know this fact, but fail to teach it. Why?
Because of tradition.
In fact, they also know that the Catholic church is the one that mandated the date of December 25th to be the "official" birth date of Jesus, and yet they fail to teach that. Again I ask....why?
And again I answer....tradition.
In fact, the date of Dec. 25th is historically known as the winter solstice and the birth date of every single pagan sun god in countless cultures across the world. They knew this day was the beginning of the end of the long cold winters. The days began to grow longer and thus gave the inclination that the sun was being "reborn" or "birthed anew".
The Catholic church, in it's attempts to meld paganism and christianity once again disobeyed God's commands. Numerous times throughout Scripture He reminds His people not to learn the ways of the heathens (Jeremiah 10 for example). Yet the "church" saw no reason to heed the voice of the Lord and instead felt that they knew best how to convert pagans to their belief. Well in a sense they did convert pagans to their belief, but not to the true religion of Yahweh.

So when was Jesus actually born? At this time of year during the LORD's Feast of Tabernacles! Think of it! The word tabernacle means "to dwell with, or a dwelling place".
What was the name given to Jesus - Emmanuel which means "God with us"
Look at Revelation...."and the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them" Revelation 21:3
The whole concept of the Tabernacle that we built was to be a meeting place between God and His people.
The idea of the word tabernacle and even the Feast of Tabernacles points truly to God dwelling with His people.
This is when Christ was born.

And because of all this I can't help but think of this time of year when Messiah was born into the world, taking on the likeness of sinful man. During this time for thousands of years, cultures have looked at the fall of the year as a time of darkness, heading into winter. The fall equinox looks at not only the harvest, but the oncoming shadow of death which winter brings. This is a time of spiritual darkness where the enemy of our souls seems to relish in people's love affair with evil. Halloween is coming soon and it is the culmination, in some ways, of the pagan rites and rituals of heathens that have existed for many centuries.
And it is into this ageless time of darkness when the Light of the world was born.
"And this is the condemnation, that the Light has come into the world and men love darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For everyone who does evil hates the light, neither coming to the light lest his deeds be exposed." -- John 3:19-20
What an amazing picture the Lord has given us by His Feast of Tabernacles, when He chose to be born among us, where He then lived, walked and talked, and healed many. Where He then took up His cross and died for our sins, laid dead in the tomb for three days and three nights, and then rose from the grave to shine His light on this world. What a fulfilled promise that He would, did, and will tabernacle, or dwell, among us!
“In” Israel or “In” Messiah?

Hello! I found your website. My name is Anders Branderud, I am 23 years and I am from Sweden.
Historical fact is that Ribi Yehoshua was born 0529 7 BCE. Read more here:

By practising Torah non-selectively we make the world a better place to live in!
To realize that one can follow two polar-opposite masters — the authentic, historical, PRO-Torah 1st-century Ribi from Nazareth – the Messiah - and the 4th-century (post-135 C.E.), arch-antithesis ANTI-Torah apostasy developed by the Hellenists (namely the Sadducees and Roman pagans who conspired to kill Ribi YÓ™hoshua, displaced his original followers (the Netzarim) and redacted the NT); is a step in that direction!
So who then was the historical Jesus? His name was Ribi Yehoshua.
The research of world-recognized authorities (for example Barrie Wilson; www.barriewilson.com) in this area implies that Ribi Yehoshua was a Pharisee (a Torah-practising Jewish group - who according to 4Q MMT (a Scroll found in the Qumran-caves) practised both written and oral Torah (oral Torah in an unbroken chain since Mosheh (Moses); commanded by Mosheh in Torah; oral Torah is recorded Beit-Din (Jewish Court)-decisions of how Torah shall be applied).. As the earliest church historians, most eminent modern university historians, our web site (www.netzarim.co.il) and our Khavruta (Distance Learning) texts confirm, the original teachings of Ribi Yehoshua were not only accepted by most of the Pharisaic Jewish community, he had hoards of Jewish students.
For words that you don’t understand; se www.netzarim.co.il ; the link to Glossaries at the first page.
Ribi Yehoshua warned for false prophets who don’t produce good fruit = defined as don’t practise the commandments in Torah according to Halakhah (oral Torah; see the above definition). See Devarim (Deuteronomy) 13:1-6.
The research of Scholars in leading universities which implies that Ribi Yehoshua was a Pharisee necessarily implies that if you want to follow him you need to practise his Torah-teachings.
So you need to start follow the historical Ribi Yehoshua – the Messiah – by practising Torah (including oral Torah)!
Finding the historical Jew, who was a Pharisee Ribi and following him brings you into Torah, which gives you a rich and meaningful life here on earth and great rewards in life after death (“heaven”)!
From Anders Branderud
Geir Toshav, Netzarim in Ra’anana in Israel (www.netzarim.co.il) who is followers of Ribi Yehoshua – the Messiah – in Orthodox Judaism
Thanks Anders for your comment! I love hearing from people who are seeking the Lord.
It is true that so many "believers" today do not know the true Messiah, mainly because of men's traditions and false teachings.
I have to say that while the Pharisees did have some things in right understanding, we can conclude that Jesus (Yehosua) was NOT a Pharisee. How do I know this? Because they held to oral Torah. God told Moses to instruct the people in His Law and for them to neither add to nor take away from His Word. When we do this, we then transgress His Law in favor of our own.
While the intentions of having the oral Torah were not necessarily wrong, the application was!
The Pharisees, scribes, and Sadducees placed the oral Torah at, or even above, the Torah of God. For this reason, Messiah REBUKED THEM.
"He answered and said to them, 'Why do you transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?'"
"Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:
'These people draw near to Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.
And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'"
- Matthew 15:3,7-9
While it is certainly true that not all of the Pharisees rejected Messiah (Nicodemus, Joseph, ) many of them certainly did.
And Y'shua opposed them because they added to and/or took away from God's Word by adding their oral Torah.
As I said before, their intentions were probably good in passing down the oral law, but the application wasn't. What God instructed Moses was enough for us to learn from and apply in our lives. There is no record in Scripture (which is the final authority on all matters)that YHWH instructed Moses to pass on an oral Torah along with the written one.
God's commandments are not burdensome and His yoke is easy. When we turn to men to teach us how to walk in them, we then lose sight of God's commandments and begin walking in our own.
We have to hold fast to God's word and that alone. If we lean on our own understanding then we will miss Him.
Scholars may be very learned and well read, but we still have to search the Scriptures for ourselves in order to find what the LORD is saying to us. We must be obedient to His Torah for our own good and understanding (though not for salvation) and seek to humble ourselves before our great High Priest - Y'shua our Messiah, for He is our God and King and the ONLY true Teacher!
In HIM,
Jason
